Here’s Everything You Should Know About Lela Rochon’s Husband, Antoin Fuqua
Antoin Fuqua was born on May 30, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to African-American parents Carlos and Mary Fuqua. He is currently 58 years old.
Fuqua was born to be a filmmaker, but he didn’t know it until he saw the light, literally. He was dazzled by the dramatic use of light and shadow in the paintings of Caravaggio, the Italian master of the Baroque era. That’s when he decided to ditch his electrical engineering degree and pursue his passion for visual storytelling.
He cut his teeth as a music video director, working with some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Toni Braxton, Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Usher. He won two awards for his creative vision: one for Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise, and another for the trailer of Dangerous Minds.
Rochon’s husband made his big screen debut in 1998 with The Replacement Killers, a stylish action thriller starring Chow Yun-Fat and Mira Sorvino. The film was a box office bomb, but it showed Fuqua’s flair for action and cinematography.
He hit the jackpot in 2001 with Training Day, a gritty crime drama starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. The film was a smash hit, earning Washington an Oscar for Best Actor and Fuqua a nomination for Best Director at the Black Reel Awards.
He forged a strong bond with Washington, collaborating with him on five more films: The Equalizer (2014), The Magnificent Seven (2016), The Equalizer 2 (2018), The Guilty (2021) and The Equalizer 3 (2023). They are one of the most successful director-actor duos in Hollywood, delivering thrilling and compelling stories to audiences.
Fuqua is also a prolific documentary filmmaker, exploring various topics such as American Dream/American Knightmare (2018), What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali (2019), The Day Sports Stood Still (2021), and Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers (2022). He is currently working on Michael, a biopic of the late king of pop Michael Jackson.
