Who is Lisa Arrindell?

Lisa is a talented actress who was born on 24 March 1969 which means she is currently 54 years old. She was birthed into the family of Guillermo Arendella and Daphne Todman. Her parents were both immigrants to the United States; while her father was born in the Dominican Republic, her mother was born in Aruba. They both came to the US when they were teenagers.

She was brought up alongside three brothers; Travis, Williams, and Guillermo. The parents of the talented actress worked in the finances but her mother influenced her into the arts. Because her mother loved arts but she was not allowed to go into it because of her religious background, she made sure that Lisa and her brothers got into it. They did everything from painting to dancing, acting, and more.

She got her high school education from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts where she got to sharpen her talent thanks to many amazing teachers. From there, she would later attend the  Juilliard School in New York City.

Lisa’s career began professionally in 1991 when she appeared in Livin’ Large and then One Good Cop. That was also the year that she made her TV debut in The Bill Cosby Show.

Her career transcends theater, film, and TV. She got the chance to star in many productions over the years including In the House (1995), Meet the Browns (2009 – 2010), and Saints & Sinners (2017). Other films she appeared in are A Lesson Before Dying (1999), Big Momma’s House 2 (2006), Madea’s Family Reunion (2006), and Favorite Son (2020).

A highly talented individual, she has many accomplishments in her life including a 2020 nomination for the Audelco Award for Featured Actress in a Play. Lisa is a winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 American Black Film Festival when she was awarded for Best Actor for her role in The Sin Seer. Her other nominations came in 2000 and 2001 for her role in Black Reel for the Network/Cable – Best Supporting Actress category.

Lisa Arrindell is a married woman whose husband is Basil Anderson. The two have been married for many years now, but the exact date of their marriage is not known.

While she has made mention of almost everyone in her life on social media, she has kept all details about her husband private, hence, it is not known if they are still together or if they have parted ways. The speculation that they are no longer together is fuelled by the fact that at a point, she was going by the name of Lisa Arrindell Anderson on social media, but she has since gone back to her maiden name.

1. Lisa Arrindell went to Juilliard  on a full scholarship

After she got admission to Juilliard, Lisa was initially worried because she did not know if her mother was going to be able to pay for it. However, she was fortunate enough to be handed a full scholarship to attend the institution. All she was left to pay for was her food and transportation which she did by working over the weekends to raise some money.

Interestingly, she auditioned for Juilliard at the age of 16, making her the youngest at the time.

2. She measures her life based on relationships 

Although she has come to be known mainly for her successful acting career, Lisa revealed that she measures her life based on her relationships more than on her career as she would always want to be surrounded by people rather than by DVDs.

3. Her teacher played a big part in her journey

According to Lisa, her life was changed after she was first encouraged by her teacher to go to FAME school. Before then, she didn’t know it was an actual place. While there, she was again encouraged by yet another teacher, Mr. Yusin, to go to Juilliard. Before then, she had no intention of going to Juilliard because she wanted to be far from her mum.

4. She is a fitness enthusiast

Beyond acting, yet another thing that Lisa has a great interest in is fitness. She is very much into it and always shares pictures and videos of herself working out on social media. More so, her brother, William, is also a fitness enthusiast.

5. Lisa Arrindell teaches acting

Lisa Arrindell takes the time out to train young people in her line. She teaches at the Youth Arts Academy at the Billy Holliday Theatre. She teaches poetry and drama to her students. According to her, all she cares about when teaching is whether her students are doing the work or not because perfection and beauty will come later.
