Mitchelle Blair is an American woman and mother of four kids. She gained infamy for the murder of her children and stuffing them in the freezer for years before she was finally caught and sent behind bars for good. Since the event surrounding her crimes first broke, it has generated so much buzz. Here are some facts worth knowing:
Her personal life is mostly hidden from the public
It was on 10 May 1979 that Mitchelle Blair was born in Detroit, Michigan, but not so much is known about her personal life. All that is known is that she was brought up together with a brother known as Marlon Blair in a rather difficult environment.
Mitchelle Blair ended the lives of 2 of her 4 children
The Detroit mother was accused of killing two out of her 4 children in 2012 and 2013. Bliar’s first murder came in 2012 when she took the lives of her son, Stephen Gage Berry, and her daughter, Stoni Ann Blair.
She killed Stephen by torturing and starving him for two weeks during which she also forced him to drink Windex. The mother also put a plastic bag over his head and poured hot water on his genitals. The kid endured more brutalities from his mother including being hung by a belt and having Force Fle bags against his nose and mouth which suffocated him.
Sadly, his injuries claimed him on August 30, 2012. Mitchelle wrapped Stephen’s body and hid him in a blanket before dumping him in her freezer.
She murdered Stoni Ann Blair less than a year after Stephen
Almost a year after the murder of Stephen, Mitchelle went nuts again in 2013 by taking the life of her daughter Stoni who was only 13 years old at the time. Blair took the life of her daughter by punching her in the face, beating her with a two-by-four, and then covering her head with a garbage bag until she lost consciousness.
The teenager’s body was put in a plastic bag by her mother and it was hidden in the freezer atop her brother.
No one noticed that the kids had disappeared
The disappearance of Stephen and Stoni did not raise any serious questions as there was hardly anyone to question where they might be. The fathers of the kids were not involved in their lives, leaving Mitchelle to make all the decisions about them, including how they left the world. More so, even before their deaths, Bliar had taken the kids out of school.
At some point, neighbors noticed the absences of the kids but as they continued to ask, Blair always had one excuse or another to dish out.
Her crimes came to light after she was evicted from her home
The crimes of Mitchelle Blair remained hidden for a couple of years until 2015 when she failed to pay her rent and was evicted from her Detroit apartment. The eviction crew was getting her and her things out of the apartment on the orders of the 36th District Court, but when they went to the house, Mitchelle was not home.
They began removing her furniture but when the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department bailiff opened her freezer, they found the unthinkable; the bodies of her two kids.
She was subsequently arrested on five charges relating to child abuse. It took almost three years before the bodies of the kids were finally discovered.
Blair claimed she took the lives of her kids because they sexually assaulted their sibling
The reason for killing her children, according to Blair was because the kids allegedly sexually abused their youngest sibling.
Mitchelle claimed that she came home one day, to find her youngest son simulating sex activity using toys. She queried the kid and claimed that he told her it was his brother, Stephen who was only 9 years old at the time, that touched him that way. This was what led her to kill him.
Blair claimed that 9 months after Stephen, she found out that Stoni was also raping her youngest son. Initially, the kid insisted that his thirteen-year-old sister was not abusing him but when Mitchelle threatened him, he caved in and answered in the affirmative.
The mother of 4 revealed that while the death of Stephen was an accident, she intentionally ended the life of Stoni. One thing that was clear to her, was that she did not regret how her two kids, whom she referred to as demons, ended. She made it known that if she had the opportunity to do it again, she would.
She was sentenced to life behind bars
Less than four months after she was arrested, the mother of four was sentenced to life in prison after she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. She is currently at the Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan where she will spend the rest of her life.
Her remaining kids are now working on having normal lives With the atrocities committed by their mother and living their lives in what Blair’s daughter, Gabi Blair, referred to as the House of Horror. Both Gabi and her younger brother moved in with their great-aunt after the arrest of their mother.
Both kids were sent back to school and they were also sent in for therapy because of the trauma they endured at the hands of their mother who would always beat them at the slightest provocations.
The youngest child was later adopted.
